The Askar 203APO is a flagship 203mm (8-inch) aperture refractor designed for the most demanding astrophotographers and visual observers. With a 1421mm focal length and f/7 focal ratio, it offers immense light-gathering power—20% more effective aperture area than the 185APO—delivering exceptional resolution, brightness, and contrast.
The optical system features a triplet air-spaced APO design that incorporates one element of ED (Extra-low Dispersion) glass. This configuration effectively corrects chromatic aberration, ensuring sharp, color-accurate views and images whether you are targeting planetary details or faint deep-sky objects.
Despite its large aperture, the 203APO is designed for manageability. The unique retractable tube design reduces the shortest overall length to just 1145mm for transport. The net weight of the OTA is 14.9kg (18.5kg fully equipped with tube rings, handle, and dovetail plate), making it one of the most portable instruments in its class.
The telescope is equipped with a large 3.5-inch dual-speed rack-and-pinion focuser with 100mm of travel and a high-precision scale. A 360° rotator allows for perfect framing, while the 1.25"/2" rear adapters ensure compatibility with a wide range of diagonals and eyepieces. The retractable tube also allows for the use of binoviewers without extra correctors.
The 203APO includes a comprehensive accessory package: heavy-duty tube rings with an enlarged base for stability, a 402mm handle with a finder slot, and an extended 500mm Losmandy-style dovetail plate for easy balancing. Two additional finder bases on the focuser provide flexibility for mounting guide scopes or other accessories.
