Shipping & Backorder Policy

How local stock, backorders, and deliveries work at AstroGear.

1. Shipping Methods & Couriers

We use tracked courier shipping nationwide via The Courier Guy to ensure secure and timely delivery. Shipping options and costs will be displayed at checkout. If an order contains items that ship from different sources or at different times, we may split the shipment and keep you updated.

The above rates apply to AstroGear stock items only. Marketplace orders and some backordered items may have different shipping conditions depending on the seller, item size, supplier, and courier requirements.

3. Processing Time

  • In-stock items: Usually processed and dispatched within 1-2 working days after payment
  • Same-day dispatch: Orders placed before 11:00 (where items are in stock) typically ship the same day
  • Same-day delivery: Available in certain areas under specific circumstances
  • Backorders: Estimated dispatch date provided after confirming supplier availability. Most backorders are completed in less than 2 weeks, but timing depends on supplier stock, international freight, customs, and courier movement

4. Backorders

A large part of astrophotography is specialist equipment. Some items sell regularly enough to keep locally, while others are better sourced when a customer actually needs them. Backorders let us offer a wider catalogue without building unnecessary local stock costs into every product.

When you order a backordered item, we confirm availability with the supplier, place or allocate the supplier order, and keep you updated as the item moves through sourcing, international shipping where applicable, customs clearance, local receiving, and final courier dispatch to you.

We try to provide realistic lead times, but they remain estimates. If there is a meaningful delay or supplier issue, we'll contact you with the options available before proceeding.

5. Multi-Seller Orders

When you order items from multiple sellers (for example, AstroGear stock items plus Marketplace items from a private seller), your order may be split into separate shipments:

  • Each seller ships their own items directly
  • Separate shipping costs apply to each shipment
  • You'll receive tracking details for each shipment

6. Delivery Timeframes

  • Estimated delivery within 1-3 business days after dispatch
  • Tracking details are provided for every shipment
  • Delivery times may vary during peak seasons or due to unforeseen circumstances

7. Order Tracking

Once your order ships, you will receive an email with your tracking number and a link to track the delivery progress online.

8. Damaged or Lost Shipments

If your order arrives damaged or appears to be lost:

  • Contact us immediately at support@astrogear.co.za
  • Provide your order number, photos (if damaged), and relevant details
  • We will assist you in filing a claim and arranging a replacement or refund

9. Regional Availability

We currently only ship within South Africa. If you are outside SA, please contact us to check if special arrangements can be made.
