Explore Apollo 428M MAX Pro

High-resolution cooled mono imaging

This cooled monochrome camera pairs a Sony IMX428 1.1" sensor with compact, lightweight hardware for versatile planetary, lunar and solar work. It combines 7.1 megapixels, hardware binning options and two-stage TEC cooling with an anti-dew heater to help you capture stable, low-noise frames across short and long exposures.

Sensor, resolution and pixel scale

The camera uses a Sony IMX428 monochrome sensor in a 1.1" format, delivering 3216 × 2208 (7.1 MP) at 4.5 µm pixels. In BIN2 mode the effective pixel size doubles to 9 µm, increasing full well and changing sampling, useful when you need more signal per binned pixel or want to match larger focal ratios.

Flexible high-speed and binning modes

Hardware and software BIN2 modes boost well depth and throughput. Base RAW8 BIN2 runs up to 51 FPS; hardware BIN2 can raise frame rates further (manufacturer notes up to ~135 FPS in Mono8 and ~109 FPS in Mono16). Choose BIN2 for higher full well (reported around 100 ke⁻) or unbinned for maximum resolution.

Low read noise and HCG option

Read noise varies with gain: low-gain operation is quoted between about 5.5 and 1.4 electrons, while engaging HCG at high gain (≥70) reduces read noise to about 2.4 electrons. This gives flexibility when imaging bright targets at high frame rates or faint targets requiring low noise.

Two-stage cooling and thermal performance

A two-stage TEC cooler targets a delta-T around 35–40 °C below ambient, helping lower dark current for long exposures. The camera also includes a built-in anti-dew heater to guard the protective window, and a 512 MB DDR3 buffer to smooth data streaming during sustained captures.
