The Proxisky UMi 17X is a compact, high-performance strain wave gear mount designed for astrophotographers who need a capable imaging platform without the bulk of a traditional equatorial mount. With a mount head weight of only 4.3 kg, it is well suited to portable setups, travel imaging, and compact observatory systems.
Despite its compact size, the UMi 17X supports up to 12 kg without a counterweight and up to 18 kg when used with a counterweight. This makes it suitable for a wide range of imaging setups, from small refractors to more advanced medium-sized astrophotography rigs.
The mount uses servo motors with strain wave gearing for smooth motion, high torque, and reduced backlash. With a factory-tested periodic error of ±10 arc-seconds, the UMi 17X is designed to deliver the precision required for guided long-exposure astrophotography.
Built around the OnStepX control system, the UMi 17X supports modern computer-controlled workflows and can be used with popular astronomy software such as NINA, KStars, and other compatible control platforms. Connectivity options include USB-C, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, ST4, and the UMi Mount app.
The UMi 17X includes physical home sensors, an adjustable RA limit sensor, RA electromagnetic braking, and dual-axis anti-collision protection. These features make the mount better suited to automated imaging sessions and repeatable setup routines.
The mount package includes the UMi 17X mount, a hard case with EVA foam, and the necessary cables, making it easier to transport and protect the mount between home, dark-sky sites, and remote imaging locations.
